India is such a nation where so many traditions and rituals are being practiced. People celebrate and enjoy these ceremonies by being the part of them. But wedding is the occasion, which is the most celebrated event in each and every part of India. In fact, Indian weddings, due to their traditional rituals and vibrant nature, have been popular in other parts of the world. But in India, wedding is not the one-day event rather pre-wedding and post-wedding ceremonies are also being conducted. Talking about the pre-wedding rites, Tilak ceremony is one of the most important rituals performed before the D-Day.
Tilak ceremony is the first step in the relationship of bride and groom's family. In India, it is generally attended by male members of both the families. The bride's father along with other male relatives visits the house of the groom and applied tilak on the forehead of the groom to make sure that he is agreed to the marriage and the bride's family also accepted him as their son-in-law. In some places, the tilak is applied on the groom by bride's brother.
Apart from the Tilak ceremony, a hawan or pooja is also performed at the groom's house in which the priest chants religious hymns to pray the Almighty. The brother of the bride presents clothes, flowers, cash, fruits and sweets in respect of the groom. Same rituals are followed by other relatives of bride's family to bless their upcoming son-in-law. After the entire rituals being performed, all the guests enjoy refreshment presented by the groom's family. At the end of the ceremony, both the families congratulate each other by initializing their new bond.
