Oriya Pre Wedding Customs

Indian wedding is not limited to one or two days rather it is a long affair which starts one or two weeks prior to the D-Day. Similarly, Oriya marriage also begins from pre-wedding rituals. It is intrinsic for both the families to kick off their relationship traditionally and smoothly. All the pre-wedding rituals are as important as those performed in the wedding day. Furthermore, Oriya pre-marriage customs are far from expensiveness and lavishness instead these are conducted in simple comportment. Here are the various Oriya pre-wedding customs.

Jayee Anukolo

The ceremony of Jayee Anukolo is the introduction of all the wedding rituals. After this custom, invitation card is distributed to all the guests and relatives. There is a tradition that the first card should be present to the family deity or to Jagannath Temple located at Puri. Thereafter, the wedding invitation card is sent to the bride and groom's maternal uncle.

Mangan Tradition

While performing the Mangan tradition, all the relatives and guests offer blessing to the bride and apply turmeric paste on her body. Soon after, the bride takes ceremonial bath.

Diya Mangula Puja

After the mangan tradition, Diya Mangula puja is conducted at the nearby Devi's temple. During the prayer, the bangles, sindoor, toe ring and sari are presented to the bride by the female barber to the Goddess at the temple and then bless her for a successful married life.

Barajatri & Baadua Pani Gadhua Custom

When the groom reaches at the wedding venue with the Baraat, which is called Barajatri, the bride is informed about the arrival. Thereafter, Baadua Pani Gadhua custom is conducted in which the bride takes ceremonial bath. /p>
